Defense to Multi 2D

PITBULLS:

Here is a defense to the Multi . If you play the bid  , you should have a suggested defense for the opponents and this is the most simple.

·                 Double: A natural overcall in an unspecified major

·                 2: Takeout double of hearts

·                 2: Takeout double of spades

·                 Other bids natural 2NT , 3♣ & 3

Although this is simple to remember it strikes me that a more natural 2/ showing takeout of the other major carries less risk. The advantage of this treatment is that partner can count trumps in the major bid and make a judgement.

Here is a complicated defense to multi 2D . It fights “fire with fire” and has a secondary aim to screw up their auction  as well as describe their hands. Allows pre-emptive hands to get in there. Needs a lot of work on responses though.

Multi v Multi method

Double = Multi with any of ...

·                 An opening bid in hearts (five+ card and opening strength)

·                 An opening bid in spades as above

·                 19 - poor 22 point balanced hand

·                 19+ three suited hand (note those penalty options are still open!)

2 Basically a strong no trump - say good 15 to poor 19. Something in both majors

2 or 2NT Transfers - opening bids in clubs or diamonds respectively

3♣ or 3 Pre-emptive! Less than an opening bid. How nice not to have to mix these in with the constructive!

3/ Michaels cue bids. 5-5 (rarely 5-4) Major-minor two suiter (NF) say 8 to 8½ tricks

3NT 22+ natural balanced
